Deep in the jungles of the Philippines, Jason and Shirley Birkin are working hard to translate the Tala Andig New Testament.
Part of their usual routine is reading through the Tala Andig Scriptures for an hour each morning and doing an audible check with their tribal co-workers. During this time, the believers and the Birkins evaluate the translation for readability, spelling and understanding.
These reading sessions help them to find any problems that may have slipped through the initial translation checks.
For the believers, many of the Scriptures are brand new to them, and hearing them for the first time has led to some interesting discussions.
Recently the translation team was reading through one of John's Epistles and Jason recounts, "the Holy Spirit brought enlightenment to one of the people helping, regarding a situation that needed to be addressed and talked about. For the next half hour or so, the issue was discussed and a decision made as to what they were going to do about it."
The group then resumed the translation checking, "amazed at how personal and practical God's Word is and how it addresses all issues in life."
Pray for the Birkins and their Tala Andig co-workers as they continue to work on translating multiple books of the New Testament. Pray that these translations will bring the Tala Andig church closer to Christ, and draw others to a relationship with Him.
