It was near-fatal case of mistaken identity. When the Kui man heard his dog barking beside a hole, he thought the hole contained a monitor lizard, a local delicacy.
Instead, a jungle cobra emerged, striking dog and master with its powerful venom. The dog soon lay dead, and the Kui man reeled in pain, knowing he had to get help quickly if he was to survive.
For three agonizing hours, he stumbled back to the village, finally making it to the house of missionary Ralph and Kim Lewis.
Ralph quickly began treatment, but the swelling slowly moved up the man's arm. Ralph spent most of the day treating the bite as the man groaned in pain.
The swelling has gone down, but the bite has become infected, and they are now fighting against gangrene.
It's just another day of ministry among the Kui people of Cambodia. To help build relationships with the people, the Lewises run a clinic under their house that helps the Kuis with their many medical needs.
Pray that the man with the snake bite will heal quickly. Pray that the Lewises' medical ministry will lead to the Kuis having open hearts to hear the Gospel.
